Why You Should Embrace Online Courses

With the advent and rapid growth of technology, you don't have to go near a school to be knowledgeable. Technology has improved and refined the way we do things in communication, transportation, agriculture, manufacturing, it is only fair she blesses us in education.

Well, blessed we are because online courses are here to stay. There are courses short and long, to acquire soft skills, technical skills, BSc and even masters, all in the comfort of your bedroom.

Some sites where online courses can be taken include: Udemy, Udacity, Alison, Edx, and many more.

Online courses are a fine source of education and refinement with the following added benefits:

1. Less Expensive - with the mounting and scary amount of debt people rack up in the name of going to the University, online courses are a huge source of relief for those who do not want to spend some years of their life paying off debt accrued in the process of getting formal education. Most online courses are way cheaper with some being free. Some others only require a token for a certificate or money for materials. Materials that are even used by students in universities at a more expensive price.

What if tuition fees are cheap for you where you are, how then are online courses better?
Well, just think about your accommodation, transportation, feeding and other living expenses while you are in school. You see the difference?

2. Shorter and Easier - Most online courses take shorter time to complete than what's obtainable in educational institutions. This is because they are designed with your convenience in mind and broken down to suit your needs. For instance, instead of going to school to read computer science and have different theories and programmes heaped on you at once, with online courses you can learn one at a time, level by level.

You can take only an introductory part, have it broken down completely for you. You can study and practice, and when you feel ready for the next stage, you take another. All in tiny bits - easier to learn and remember.

3. Less Scary Teachers - Many people don't like their lecturers. They come to class, rap the lectures, threaten, fail you in exams(at least that's how it seems to many students) and the list goes on.

Now enter online courses- most online institutions vet their teachers and their courses thoroughly. This is because they want whoever takes the course to enjoy them, understand them and not feel threatened by the course so that you can come back for more.
I once took a course on business presentation (my first online course) and finished that course feeling like the best public speaker on earth. The course was just a total of four(4) hours but the materials were divided into bits of 5 minutes videos. The teachers were gentle, smiling and reassuring, something not often seen in many lecturers. It won me over, can't stop singing praises of online courses ever since.

4. Access and Comfort - Many of the courses online can be downloaded and made use of offline. This ensures that you can take your courses when you want to, when it's convenient and when you are comfortable. You don't have to be in a class waiting for a lecturer, nor with a sea of other students or when you are dizzy or hungry trying to focus. Online courses offered by universities also grant you access to materials used by the students for your consumption and once again, at your own time.

Now you see, online courses are here to stay and have proven that anyone can learn anything anytime. You don't have to be in sales to learn how to be a great sales person, you don't have to be in sciences to learn about your body anatomy, you don't have to be a computer guru to learn programming.

All of these and more are possible with the thousands of courses available online with the benefits of comfort, less expenses, less time and easier learning only if you want it.
What will be your next online course?
